College of Earth Sciences

Introduction

The establishment of the College of Earth Sciences at Dilling University was one of the recommendations of the Mining Conference held in South Kordofan State. This decision was driven by the state's abundance of mineral and water resources. The goal is for the college to contribute to preparing qualified human resources capable of utilizing the natural wealth bestowed upon this land by Allah. This aligns with the vision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

To become a scientific beacon of excellence in Earth Sciences at the national, regional, and international levels.


Mission

To disseminate knowledge in Earth Sciences through high-quality university education and distinguished scientific research that meets global standards. The college aims to keep pace with rapid scientific advancements and prepare qualified professionals for the job market, capable of competing locally, regionally, and internationally.


Objectives

Without infringing upon the roles, powers, and authorities of the University Council and the Academic Council, the College of Earth Sciences strives to achieve the following objectives:

  1. To provide students with scientific knowledge in Earth Sciences and mining.
  2. To qualify students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Earth Sciences and mining for optimal resource utilization.
  3. To equip students with modern strategies in Earth Sciences and mining, enabling them to acquire lifelong learning skills in scientific research and practical applications in Earth Sciences.
  4. To establish the intellectual foundation necessary for students to understand Earth's components and the best methods for extracting resources without causing harm to other ecological systems.
  5. To direct research and applied scientific knowledge towards maximizing returns in mineral extraction and enhancing other Earth Science fields.
  6. To promote scientific and technological awareness in Earth Sciences and mining within the community and link scientific research with practical applications through educational programs.
  7. To provide scientific advice and recommendations to those interested in Earth Sciences and policymakers at the state and national levels.
  8. To serve the community by preparing and training individuals aware of the concept of mining, resource exploitation, and management systems through workshops, seminars, camps, exhibitions, and public lectures.
  9. To address issues of environmental pollution and its negative impacts, directing research towards enhancing this sector.
  10. To meet the needs of mining companies at the state and national levels by providing skilled personnel familiar with the requirements and practices of mining.
  11. To develop a contemporary theoretical understanding among students of Sudan’s geological realities, its key challenges, and how to propose solutions.

Admission Requirements

Students are admitted to the college from the scientific streams (Science – Mathematics and Science – Biology) through the unified admission process of the Ministry of Higher Education.


Degree Awarded

The College of Earth Sciences at Dilling University awards a Bachelor’s degree with honors in the offered specializations upon completing graduation requirements and passing all courses as per the evaluation regulations.
